Licensing
Church and ministry licensing.
The Simple Version exists to serve readers. Our terms keep the everyday church use free while sustaining the ongoing work of rendering.
Free Use — No Written License Required
You may quote the Simple Version in worship bulletins, sermon slides, orders of service, and small-group handouts without a written license, with attribution, as long as all of the following are true:
- Quotations total 500 verses or fewer
- Quotations do not amount to a complete book of the Bible
- Quotations are not more than 25% of the total words in the resource where they appear
- The resource is not sold or used commercially
- Each use includes the attribution line below
Citing the Simple Version
Cite the Simple Version as SV — for example, John 3:16 (SV). On first use within a work, spell out the full name: Simple Version (SV). Please do not cite the version as "SVP," which refers to the publisher, the Simple Version Project.
Required attribution for reproduced text: Scripture quoted from the Simple Version, © Simple Version Project. Used by permission.
A License Is Required For
- Commercial products — books, curriculum, devotionals, or study guides offered for sale
- Mobile apps, websites, and software
- Audio recordings, broadcast, streaming archives, and podcast distribution
- Any use beyond the free limits described above
Annual Ministry Licenses
Churches that want full presentation, reproduction, and congregational app access can hold an annual license, priced by congregation size. This unlocks unlimited integration with internal reproduction, presentation, and projection software, and full-congregation app access.
Wholesale & Bookstore Licensing
Megachurches, ministry networks, and Christian bookstores that want to stock or distribute the Simple Version can apply for wholesale or reseller terms. See our wholesale page for pricing tiers, distribution details, and to request a quote.
Built to Be Understood
The Simple Version exists so all may hear and understand Him. Cognitive accessibility is not an add-on — it is the reason this version exists. Every reader who has ever felt locked out of Scripture by dense or archaic language is who we built this for.
Ministry Hardship Licensing
We never want costs to prevent God's Word from being heard and understood. Qualifying nonprofit ministries — including disability and special-needs ministries operating on limited budgets — may apply for free or subsidized licensing for their direct ministry use. Tell us about your work, and we'll do what we can to help you win souls.
Eligibility Checklist
You likely qualify for a free or subsidized Ministry Hardship license if you can answer "yes" to most of the following:
- You are a nonprofit ministry, church, or registered charitable organization (or operate under one).
- The Simple Version will be used in direct ministry — not resold, repackaged, or distributed for profit.
- Your annual operating budget is under $100,000.00, and standard licensing fees would meaningfully reduce your ability to win souls.
- The people you minister to would benefit from a version built for cognitive accessibility.
Examples of ministries we are eager to support:
- Disability ministries serving adults or children with intellectual or developmental disabilities
- Special-needs Sunday school classes, respite programs, and group homes
- Deaf and hard-of-hearing ministries needing print or projection use
- Autism-friendly worship services and sensory-accessible Bible studies
- Prison, recovery, and rescue-mission ministries serving readers with limited literacy
- ESL and new-believer classes where plain-language Scripture is essential
- Memory-care and dementia ministries in care facilities
