About

Scripture should be simple.

Salvation is simple. Reading Scripture should be too. We are building Simple Version because the Bible should be accessible to every adult — not only to those who already know how to read it.

Most English Bibles are translated for readers who already speak the church lingo. They use long sentences, ancient idioms, and words most people never hear outside of Sunday morning. For a new born-again believer, an autistic adult, or someone opening a Bible for the first time, that language can be a barrier.

Simple Version is a meaning-based interpretive rendering. We deliver the meaning of Scripture in plain, direct, and accurate declarative sentences — the way a trusted friend would explain it to you, honestly and without softening of the truth.

A planned Public Benefit Corporation

Simple Version Project is incorporating as a Public Benefit Corporation. That structure binds the organization to its mission: publishing accessible Scripture for the readers most versions have left behind. Profits from print and digital editions fund the version work and keep the text free where it needs to be.

What we value

  • Faithfulness to the meaning of the original Scriptures.
  • Clarity that respects the reader.
  • Sensory calm — typography and design that don't overwhelm.
  • A growth posture: we want readers to grow and welcome cross-referencing Simple with other versions.

Our commitment to accessibility

Accessibility isn't a feature we added — it's why Simple Version exists. Every decision, from sentence length to color contrast, is weighed against one question: does this serve the reader who needs it most?

  • Plain, declarative language for neurodivergent readers, new English speakers, and first-time Bible readers.
  • Typography sized and spaced for comfortable reading; calm color and contrast that meet WCAG AA on every page.
  • Keyboard-navigable layouts, descriptive link text, and screen-reader friendly structure throughout the site.
  • Free digital access at simple.bible and generous licensing for accessibility ministries.

Accessibility issues are bugs. If something is hard to read, understand, or use, please tell us, and we'll investigate.
